about darcy
Darcy was born and raised west of Acme and and with Nora his wife of 26 years they have raised their two daughters Skyler and Crystal. After graduating from Acme High School Darcy farmed in partnership operating Arda Farms with his father Art and his brother Jay. In 1993 Darcy and Nora started farming on their own as Lost Creek Cattle Enterprises running a commercial cow herd and grain operation.
In the community Darcy and Nora have both been leaders in local 4-H clubs as well as the Acme United Church and Ag Society. When the old church was destroyed by fire in 2000 they both pitched in. Darcy chaired the fundraising committee and Nora worked on the design committee. As Acme Ag Society President Darcy has an understanding of the importance of provincial funding for our communities.
Darcy was elected Chair of Alberta Beef Producers in 2004 after having served as chair of the Government Affairs Committee. He served six years on the board and of the Canadian Cattlemens Association as well as on the executive as the Finance Chair. After serving the beef industry for many years he became President of the Canadian Agri-food Trade Alliance representing Canadian export agriculture in Ottawa and and around the world. Darcy is presently serving on the board of the Agriculture Financial Services Corporation (AFSC) where his experience is helping to provide insurance and lending programs to rural Alberta.
Serving in these positions has given him “on the ground” experience with how government policy is developed and the effects it has on Albertans. As a farmer and landowner in Kneehill and Mountainview Counties he realizes the importance of property rights and that farmers are the best stewards of the land. He knows that strong families and communities are the linchpin of our society.
